Trial: Blade Barrier InnovA58
On 2 July 2026 we officially opened the Blade Barrier. The project has since moved into its second phase of testing.
Blade–Made delivered a trial installation of the Blade Barrier: a sound barrier built from repurposed wind turbine blades.
We identified sound barriers as one of the most effective large-scale applications for end-of-life blades, as they can be reused in their full form with minimal processing. In our designs, the horizontal configuration uses around 45 blades per kilometer, while the vertical configuration can use up to 200 blades per kilometer.
To create a scalable, widely applicable, and certifiable product, Blade–Made realised a 60-meter test barrier on Rijkswaterstaat’s innovation strip along the A58 near Oirschot (InnovA58). The project was carried out in collaboration with Rijkswaterstaat’s Innovation Quarter and Dura Vermeer Infra, and was financially supported by the Province of Noord-Brabant.
The test installation is being evaluated on:
Manufacturability
Acoustic performance / noise reduction
Financial feasibility
Sustainability
Maintenance and safety
Partners
Dura Vermeer Infra, InnovA58 (Rijkswaterstaat), Provincie Noord Brabant
Status
